A native New Yorker, Dr. Layman has worked in the field of mental health for over 20 years and provides individual and couples psychotherapy. He has made it his mission to help adults come to terms with loss and disability, and overcome neurological ailments and psychological issues. His greatest skill is in guiding personal growth and healing, and helping people live full and satisfying lives.
Dr. Layman earned a Bachelors in Psychology and Masters in Mental Health Counseling and Rehabilitation. He worked as a Rehabilitation Counselor and Hospice Psychosocial Counselor until he returned for his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology. During this training he studied and worked with older individuals and earned a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology. He completed a predoctoral internship in Rehabilitation Psychology and Neuropsychology. He completed his post-doctoral training in Clinical Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Research. He has worked as a Clinical Neuropsychologist in the area of Rehabilitation Medicine for two NYC Medical Centers since 2003. He currently provides neuropsychological consultation and psychotherapy services in metro area Assisted Living Facilities and Nursing Homes.
Dr. Layman is not only knowledgeable about the neurocognitive underpinnings of thought and emotion, his background gives him a unique perspective on how to get from life all that is available.
